Consider Supporting a Student in Need

January 2, 2018

Dear Nature Hill Parents,

As many of you know, Nathaniel Froemming, a 6th grader at Nature Hill, was seriously injured in a car accident over Winter Break. Thank you to everyone who has inquired about how they can help support Nathaniel. The following are a few ways to help the family during this difficult time.

  • Cards and Well Wishes:  Can be left at the NHI front desk with Nathaniel’s name on them.
  • NHI Pajama/Hat Day on Friday, January 5: Students in Nathaniel’s homeroom have organized a school wide fundraiser. Students will be allowed to wear school-appropriate hats and pajamas for a minimum donation of $1.00. The cash will be given directly to the family for any immediate needs.
  • Go Fund Me Fundraiser:  Funds raised will go to the family to help with medical bills and to help purchase a prosthetic arm for Nathaniel. The family has also been providing updates on Nathaniel on this page:  https://www.gofundme.com/wjbpt5-helping-nathaniel
  • Meals for the Family:  A meal train has been set up to help alleviate the stress of meal planning for the family as they focus on Nathaniel. Open dates and specific needs can be found at the following link:  https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/yl9ww1
  • Oconomowoc Youth Basketball Tournament (OYB):  All funds raised from concessions during the OYB tournament on January 6 at Oconomowoc High School will go toward helping Nathaniel. During the tournament #helpnathaniel bracelets will be sold and all collections will be given to the family. Bracelets will be on sale at the NHI front desk beginning next week.

I am proud to be part of such a caring and generous community. We are constantly teaching our students the importance of empathy and the value of supporting those in need. Nathaniel and his family are part of our Pack, and they need our help. Let’s come together and show them that the Nature Hill community is here to support them during this difficult time.

Winter Habit Heroes Sign Up: Free YMCA Membership Included

After a successful program this past fall, we are excited to announce a winter edition of the YMCA Habit Heroes program. As an organization, the Y is committed to helping kids and their families make healthier decisions that will positively impact their well-being, help prevent health risks associated with inactivity and poor nutrition, and empower and educate our community by building character and supporting healthy habits. At Nature Hill, we share these same values and we are excited to offer this opportunity to our students.

Habit Heroes is an 8-week program that will meet every Friday from 3:15-4:15 p.m. from January 26-March 16. Each session will focus on a mix of topics including honesty, the physical body, caring, importance of water, respect, food preparation and cooking, responsibility, and stress management. During each session, students will spend 30 minutes in group discussion and/or smaller group work based on the week’s focus and 30 minutes exercising.

More importantly, our goal is to encourage them to stick to these new habits beyond the 8-week session. Students will be asked to set and monitor goals around each habit, and will be recognized for making healthy life choices and following through on the program’s goals. These goals include:
  • Spending less than 2 hours of screen time daily
  • Eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day
  • Accumulating at least 1 hour of physical activity every day
  • Eating a healthy breakfast every day
  • Eliminating soda or sugar-based drinks from their diet
To support their success in the program, your family will be given a free 3-month membership to the YMCA. This is an amazing incentive valued at $279! If you are already a member at the Y, they will simply stop your auto-draft for 3- months.

To sign your child up, please fill out the attached registration information and participant expectations and return them to the YMCA Pabst Farms as soon as possible. Hard copies are also available at the YMCA. Please note that there are only 15 spots available, so we encourage you to sign up today. We hope you consider enrolling your Wolf in this unique and amazing opportunity!

Dear Parents,

The members of Oconomowoc FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) have planned a Dodgeball tournament for Silver Lake and Nature Hill students!

Where: The Zone, previously “Sticks” at Olympia

          When: Friday January 26th, 3:00 to 8:00

What: Dodgeball tournament, concessions, extra games and prizes!

Why: To raise money for the Oconomowoc Scholarship Fund

The cost is $60.00 per team, teams of six. Sign up as one team on the webstore https://oconomowoc.revtrak.net/ under “Dodgeball Tournament”. Have your children decide teams of six and only one parent needs to register each team. Pay the one time fee of $60.00 and fill out names of the team members.

If your child can not find a team to join, there will be an option to sign up as an individual, and be put into teams at a later date.

This year, we are offering bussing to the Zone! There is no extra cost for the bus, but if you are able to drive your child to the Zone, please do!

FBLA will be at The Zone at 3:00. Make sure to send your child to school with tennis shoes and spending money, there will be concessions and games for them to play! Pick up time is estimated to be at 8:00 from The Zone. We will be sending out a follow-up email with more information as teams sign up. If you have any questions, please email stefank@oasd.org or tillemae@oasd.org.
